28 Feb Six Figure Sales Top Opening Day At Goffs February
Today’s opening session of Goffs February Sale was headed by six figure sales in the weanling and horses in training categories.
Baroda Stud topped the Day 1 weanling trade with their son of Sottsass (Lot 126 – pictured), the first foal out of a Camelot sister to several Group performers, selling for €115,000 to Tally Ho. Ringfort Stud offered another of the day’s standouts with their Night Of Thunder colt (Lot 109) out of a winning Street Cry mare that has already produced three winners from three runners and is a sister to a host of black type horses including Group 1 winner Bandini. He sold to JS Bloodstock and Rogues Gallery for €110,000.
Other highlights among the weanlings included two more Lots from the Baroda Stud draft – a New Bay colt (Lot 186) out of a Shamardal sister to two Stakes winners that was secured by Camas Park for €85,000, and a filly by Magna Grecia closely related to Group 2 winner Smoking Sun and Group 1 Champion Main Sequence (Lot 200) who was purchased by MAB Agency for €58,000. She was followed soon after by Olive O’Connor Bloodstock’s impressive daughter of Saxon Warrior (Lot 213) that sold to Whitehall Stud for €62,000.
A Walk In The Park colt out of an own-sister to Grade 1 winner Felix Desjy topped the National Hunt weanlings on the opening day when Thistletown Stud’s Lot 209 sold to Gerry Aherne for €56,000.
The morning horses in training section featured recent Dundalk winner Tosen Wish (Lot 35 – pictured below), a four-year-old son of New Bay offered by The Castlebridge Consignment. He was knocked down for €100,000 to Stephen Thorne of Shamrock Thoroughbreds in partnership with Team Valor and will go into training with Ado McGuinness.
