Bloodstock Agents & Horseracing Consultancy

Billy Jackson-Stops founded JS Bloodstock Consultancy in 2018, following over a decade of experience in the Thoroughbred industry. Coming from an equestrian background in point-to-pointing and professional polo, horses have always been at the heart of Billy’s life.

His first experience in the Thoroughbred industry came at Tattersalls, where he assisted renowned bloodstock agent James Delahooke.

Billy then joined the Oppenheimers’ Hascombe and Valiant Stud—breeders of Cracksman and Golden Horn—where he prepared yearlings for the sales. From there, he moved into the racing side of the industry, becoming assistant trainer to Olly and Hetta Stevens. Their numerous successes during his tenure included Group 2 Flying Childers winner Green Door, Royal Ascot Windsor Castle winner Extortionist, and dual 1000 Guineas runner-up Lightning Thunder.

After two years with Olly and Hetta, Billy took an opportunity to become assistant trainer to multiple Group 1 winning trainer Ralph Beckett. At the time, Group 1 Oaks heroines Talent and Secret Gesture were in training, as well as multiple Group 1 winner and now popular stallion Lightning Spear and St Ledger winner Simple Verse.

Billy’s next move took him to Australia, where he was offered the role of assistant trainer to John O’Shea, Godolphin’s private trainer in Australia. Working closely with John, he helped manage the training of 400 horses across three states, including Group 1 winners Hartnell, Alizee, and Astern. After a year in Sydney, Billy was asked to oversee Godolphin’s satellite yard of 70 horses at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne. This included managing champion stayer Hartnell, who finished third in that year’s Group 1 Melbourne Cup.

Billy returned from Australia at the end of 2017 and established JS Bloodstock Consultancy in 2018. His first yearling purchase at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale resulted in Group 2 winner Shadn. That same year, success followed with private purchases such as Time To Study, who won the prestigious Old Borough Cup at Haydock Park, and Future Score, who was bought out of a Pontefract maiden and went on to win the Listed Cranbourne Cup while placing multiple times in Group races in Australia.

Since then, multiple stakes winners have followed, including:

  • Circle Of Fire – Group 1 Sydney Cup
  • Rogue Millennium – Group 2 Duke of Cambridge at Royal Ascot
  • Isle Of Jura – Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot
  • Bay City Roller – Group 2 Champagne Stakes, completing an unbeaten 2-year-old season
  • West Acre – Track record-breaking win at Meydan in the Group 2 Blue Point Sprint
  • Prydwen – Classic glory in the Group 3 Deutsches St. Leger

JS Bloodstock Consultancy has grown significantly since its inception, with Billy now regularly purchasing yearlings for trainers such as George Scott, Tom Clover, and Andrew Balding. Beyond racehorse acquisitions, the consultancy manages various breeders and studs, including:

  • Triermore Stud – Breeders of Group 1 Breeders’ Cup winner Line Of Duty
  • Lawn Stud – Breeders of Group 1 Oaks winner Look Here and multiple Group 1 winner Kinross
