November Racing Round-Up: Rising Stars and International Success
With yearling sales wrapped up, November is typically a quieter month, primarily focused on preparation for the upcoming mare and foal sales. However, there was still plenty of action on the track, showcasing some exciting prospects for the future.
Rogue Sensation’s Bold Performance
Rogue Sensation put in a strong display in Deauville’s Listed Prix Zeddaan, finishing a close second. The daughter of Too Darn Hot, out of an Oasis Dream mare, was a relatively inexpensive purchase at 50,000 Guineas for The Rogues Gallery syndicate from the Tattersalls December Yearling Sale. Now boasting black type, she looks like an exciting contender for next year’s flat season.
Tom Clover’s Newmarket Success
Trainer Tom Clover celebrated an impressive victory on the final day of the turf season at Newmarket with a two-year-old gelding out of Sixtygeesbaby. The son of Starspangledbanner, purchased for 65,000 Guineas at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up, won a competitive Novice Stakes race. Being a half-brother to the Group-performing Rogue Lightning, connections have high hopes for his three-year-old campaign.
Opulence Thoroughbreds’ Rising Stars
Magellan Cloud, a promising son of Mohaather, secured victory at Redcar on his third start. Purchased for €95,000 from Tattersalls Ireland, he is trained by John & Sean Quinn and looks to be a strong prospect for 2025.
Opulence Thoroughbreds also enjoyed success with Addison Grey, who triumphed on debut with ease. The son of Havana Grey, trained by Clive Cox and ridden by Rossa Ryan, was a private purchase from Yeomanstown Stud. With such talent emerging, Opulence has an exciting season ahead!
International Spotlight: Breeders’ Cup Highlights
Across the Atlantic, the Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar—‘where the surf meets the turf’—produced some standout performances from European raiders, particularly in the juvenile division.
Victoria Road stole the show, finishing the season unbeaten with an impressive five wins from five starts. She is the first Group 1 winner for Showcasing as a broodmare sire, further solidifying the reputation of Whitsbury Manor Stud. With the in-demand Havana Grey already making waves as a sire, Showcasing could be shaping up as an exceptional broodmare sire in the making.
Magnum Force also made headlines, becoming Mehmas’s third individual two-year-old Group winner of 2024—an extraordinary feat for any sire. His success further underscores Tally Ho Stud’s dominance in the stallion market.
Looking Ahead
With the flat season winding down and preparations for the mare and foal sales in full swing, November has still provided plenty of excitement on the track. As these promising young horses progress into their next campaigns, 2025 looks set to be another thrilling year in racing!
