01 Sep August ’25 Round-Up: Standout Sales and a Month of Winners
August has been another hugely exciting month, marked by major investments at the sales in France and Doncaster, as well as a fantastic run of winners on the track — including a breakthrough Group success for Gewan.
Sales Successes
At the Arqana August Sale in Deauville, we were delighted to secure some outstanding yearlings for clients. Among the highlights was a striking Siyouni filly out of Typique, purchased for €625,000 on behalf of Victorious Racing. Joining the Victorious Racing ranks is a Sea The Stars colt out of Vanouche (€160,000), who will be trained by George Scott, and a sharp-looking Kodiac filly out of Queenmania (€150,000). In addition, a classy Too Darn Hot filly out of Rocksavage was secured for Opulence Thoroughbreds at €230,000.
The following week at Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in Doncaster, we added further quality. For Victorious Racing, we picked up a Mehmas colt out of Airbrush (£85,000), a Mehmas filly out of Guilded (£110,000), and a Sioux Nation filly out of Kerkyra Island (£82,000) who will join Archie Watson. Alongside those, George Scott will train three more yearlings purchased on behalf of clients: a Bated Breath colt out of Dancing Eagle (£68,000), a Sioux Nation colt out of Elegant Queen (£100,000), and an Inns Of Court filly out of Operatic, bought for Valmont and Michael Blencowe at £75,000.
Winners in August
While the sales provided plenty of excitement for the future, the results on the track this month have been equally thrilling.
The star of August was undoubtedly Gewan, who took a huge step forward to win the Group 3 Acomb Stakes at York. A purchase we have always held in high regard, he confirmed himself a colt of serious quality.
Among the handicappers, Belgravian was a real highlight — notching two wins during the month. He looked a cut above when landing a Class 4 0-85 Handicap, before following up impressively in a Class 3 0-88 Handicap. His progression has been superb to watch, and he now looks a horse firmly on the upgrade with his sights set on the Cesarewitch at Newmarket in October. Addison Grey also produced a stylish performance to capture a Class 4 0-85 Handicap at Newmarket and he could be seen next in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster, while Crack On Boys showed grit and class to win a Class 3 0-90 Handicap in the racing league, netting his owners in excess of £25,000 for the effort.
There were smart maiden and novice winners too. Lady Ridgewood opened her account in a Class 5 Fillies’ Maiden, while Alther Walden continued his progression with victory in a Class 5 Restricted Novice Stakes, backing up the promise she showed earlier in the summer. Across the Channel, Breckenbrough made her mark in France by winning a Fillies’ Maiden at Deauville, further underlining the international scope of our success. And finally, Marchogion impressed when taking a competitive Class 3 0-95 Handicap, looking every inch a horse with more big days ahead.
Looking Ahead
August has underlined the strength of both our new acquisitions and our established runners. With Gewan flying the flag at Group level and several handicappers climbing the ranks impressively, there is real depth to the current roster. Meanwhile, the yearlings secured at Arqana and Goffs UK represent the next generation, bought with an eye on developing into the stars of tomorrow.
With sales season momentum continuing and the autumn racing calendar ahead, we look forward to building on this strong summer.
