Billy Jackson-Stops started JS Bloodstock Consultancy in 2018, having spent over a decadeworking in the Thoroughbred industry. Billy was brought up just 200 metres from the gatesof Towcester Racecourse and, coming from an equestrian background ofhunting and point-to-pointing, horses have always been at the centre of his life.

His first experience of the Thoroughbred industry came at Tattersalls, where he assisted renowned bloodstock agent James Delahooke.
Billy then joined the Oppenheimers’ Hascombe and Valiant Stud, breeders of Cracksman and Golden Horn, where he prepared yearlings for the sales. This gave him a valuable insight into breeding at the top end of the market, as well as an unparalleled knowledge of yearlings. From Hascombe and Valiant, he moved into the racing side of the industry, becoming assistant trainer to Olly and Hetta Stevens. Their numerous successes during his time there included Group 2 Flying Childers’ Stakes winner Green Door and Royal Ascot Windsor Castle Stakes winner Extortionist.
After two years with Olly and Hetta, Billy took the opportunity to work at a larger yard, becoming assistant trainer to multiple Group 1-winning trainer Ralph Beckett. Group 1 Oaks heroines Talent and Secret Gesture were in training at the time, as well as multiple Group 1 winner and now stallion Lightning Spear. The highlight of Billy’s time with Ralph was Simple Verse winning the Group 1 St Leger.
Billy’s next move was to Australia, where John Ferguson, then Racing Manager of Godolphin, offered him the role of assistant trainer to John O’Shea, Godolphin’s private trainer in Australia. Billy worked closely with O’Shea to help manage the training of 400 horses across three states, including Group 1 winners Hartnell, Alizee and Astern, to name but a few. After a year in Sydney, Billy was asked to manage Godolphin’s satellite yard of 70 horses at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne. This included overseeing champion stayer Hartnell, who finished third in that year’s Group 1 Melbourne Cup.
Billy returned from Australia at the end of 2017 and established JS Bloodstock Consultancy in 2018. He purchased his first yearling at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale, which went on to become Group 2 winner Shadn. Further success came that year via private purchases Time To Study, winner of the coveted Old Borough Cup at Haydock Park, and Future Score, who was purchased out of a Pontefract maiden before winning the Listed Cranbourne Cup and placing multiple times in Group races in Australia.
JS Bloodstock Consultancy has expanded significantly since its inception, and Billy now buys yearlings regularly for trainers including George Scott, Tom Clover and Andrew Balding. In addition to sourcing horses to race, JS Bloodstock Consultancy manages a range of owners, breeders and studs, such as Triermore Stud in Ireland, breeders of Group 1 Breeders’ Cup winner Line Of Duty, and Lawn Stud, breeders of Group 1 Oaks winner Look Here and multiple Group 1 winner Kinross.
In the eight years since establishing JS Bloodstock Consultancy, Billy has been responsible for sourcing multiple Group 1 winners, including Gewan (Champion European 2-Year-Old, 2025), Caballo De Mar, Bay City Roller, Royal Supremacy and Circle Of Fire. Other notable purchases include Rogue Millennium, winner of the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot; Isle Of Jura, who completed the Bahrain Triple Crown and won the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes; and West Acre, winner of the Group 2 Blue Point Sprint and Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Stakes.
