The result was a bonus for Tattersalls and potential buyers who would not have been in Dubai had the horses arrived at their originally-planned destination. The draft included the three-year-old gelding Isle of Jura, who was sold for £150,000, a record for a Tattersalls Ascot mixed sale and bettered only at the company's former breeze-up auctions held at the venue. Turnover on the day shot up by 135 per cent to a figure of £1,661,100 - a record for a mixed sale run by Tattersalls Ascot - the average gained 140 per cent when reaching £17,485, while the median rose 71 per cent to £6,500. Of 106 lots who walked the ring, 90 per cent found a new home. A tremendous one-day sale at the first Tattersalls Ascot sale of 2023 produced the highest-price ever given for a horse in training sold at the venue with JS Bloodstock / George Scott Racing going to £150,000 for the Godolphin-consigned once-raced ISLE OF JURA. The draft from Godolphin produced the day’s top 14 prices, and the strong demand for the choice lots came primarily from trainers and owners sourcing horses to race at the big international Festival meetings. Five of the Godolphin consignment sold for £100,000 or more contributing to a session turnover of £1,661,100, a record for a Tattersalls Ascot mixed sale. Today’s opening session of Goffs February Sale was headed by six figure sales in the weanling and horses in training categories. Baroda Stud topped the Day 1 weanling trade with their son of Sottsass (Lot 126 - pictured), the first foal out of a Camelot sister to several Group performers, selling for €115,000 to Tally Ho. Ringfort Stud offered another of the day's standouts with their Night Of Thunder colt (Lot 109) out of a winning Street Cry mare that has already produced three winners from three runners and is a sister to a host of black type horses including Group 1 winner Bandini.  He sold to JS Bloodstock and Rogues Gallery for €110,000. As the curtain falls on the last breeze up sale of 2020 it would be wrong to look past the remarkable results achieved by the sales companies. A huge amount of effort has gone into the logistical planning of a sales season seemingly thwarted at every turn by travel restrictions and the very real risk of Covid-19 - all under the watchful eye of the media. The combined Ascot-Craven sale kicked off the 2-year-old sales season in Newmarket where we made three purchases in the form of colts by Dandy Man, Iffraaj and Kodiac. British-based agent Billy Jackson Stops of JS Bloodstock paired up with Sydney trainer John O’Shea to purchase a colt by Newsells Park-based sire Nathaniel (Galileo) for 55,000gns at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale on Wednesday.
