The yearling sales kicked off as usual in sunny Doncaster with the Goffs UK Premier Sale - a sale normally renowned for the source of precociously bred horses.  In a year where there has been much uncertainty both on and off the racetrack due to Covid-19, we were pleased to team up with Andrew Balding and George Scott to come away with four new purchases. We struck early on day one with Lot 21 - a Noble Mission colt out of the black type mare Toxis (Street Sense). He is a strong, scopey type with a middle-distance pedigree and slightly atypical of the traditional Doncaster stamp. We were pleased to purchase him for £38,000 and he goes into training with Andrew. Lot 66, a bold, athletic son of Awtaad from Hillwood Stud was secured for £40,000 and heads to Kingsclere to begin his career. He boasts a...

Sound Of Cannons leaves the team at Manton House for sunnier climbs to join John O'Shea for the OTI Racing team. He has run to an official rating of 103 up to a mile and a half, with the recent update of Pyledriver's Group 2 win adding further weight to his form. He has been purchased with the view to running him in the Spring Carnival where we would be optimistic that he would have every chance to be a success. Sound Of Cannons is the sixth horse purchased by JS Bloodstock this year for Australia and we wish his new connections every success with their new purchase.    ...

The strapping son of Gleneagles makes his way to the Australian stable of Maher/Eustace after a series of promising runs in England. He has shown potential in his early career over a 1m2f and looks capable of getting further in time. By the exciting sire Gleneagles out of a mare by Rock of Gibraltar, he looks every inch the type to excel in the Southern Hemisphere. We wish his new owners every success for the season....

As the curtain falls on the last breeze up sale of 2020 it would be wrong to look past the remarkable results achieved by the sales companies. A huge amount of effort has gone into the logistical planning of a sales season seemingly thwarted at every turn by travel restrictions and the very real risk of Covid-19 - all under the watchful eye of the media. The combined Ascot-Craven sale kicked off the 2-year-old sales season in Newmarket where we made three purchases in the form of colts by Dandy Man, Iffraaj and Kodiac. These were bought for trainers George Scott and Tom Clover respectively.  The Dandy Man colt boasts a speedy pedigree out of a mare by Exceed and Excel, he breezed well and we aquired him for 62,000 guineas. The Iffraaj colt is a first foal out of a Fastnet Rock mare and was...

Purchased comparatively inexpensively from the Tattersalls Book 3 Yearling sale last October, the filly by Gregorian has begun her 2-year-old campaign impressively.  She ran promisingly first time out, narrowly beaten by Brian Meehan’s Tanfantic who has since stepped up to Listed company.  Fairy Dust then decisively put the race to bed on her reappearance beating several others who had already shed their maiden tags. She looks a promising filly to go forward with for Tom Clover and the Fairy Dust Partnership. We wish them every success for the rest of the season....

The team of JS Bloodstock and Tom Clover appear to have unearthed a gem in the form of the two year old colt by Sepoy. The lightly raced juvenile has produced three strong performances from three runs, never finishing out of the placings.  Soldierpoy caught the eye with an impressive run on his debut finishing just behind the winner, setting himself up smartly to go one better next time out.  He then went on to produce a gallant run in the famous Newbury Super Sprint and outran his odds to produce a fast finishing third. Purchased for just £7,000 at the Tattersalls Ascot yearling sale last year, Soldierpoy has already amassed £22,000 in prize money and looks set for an exciting autumn campaign. We would like to wish Tom and the Shimplingthorne Syndicate every success for the rest of the season.  ...

JS Bloodstock has hit the ground running in 2020 with an inaugural trip to the Magic Millions yearling sales on the Gold Coast.  Billy came away with two purchases, one for South Australian trainer Will Clarken and a second for good friend and leading Victorian training partnership David Eustace and Ciaron Maher.  Dave and Ciaron have had an impressive run of success - currently sitting second in the Victorian premiership and training at an unprecedented strike rate of 19.4%.  They scooped two races on the big Magic Millions race day including the feature 2 year old event with one of their 2019 Magic Millions graduates Away Game.  We are excited to be involved with such a forward thinking and successful team and wish them the best of luck with our purchase.  Together we bought lot 826, a strapping colt by Defcon.  This colt's likeness to his...

SHADN - This outstanding filly by No Nay Never improved again to win this Group 2 Criterium De Maison-Laffitte. She's now run 6 times, 5 of those in stakes company for 3 wins and 2 places. Bought by JS Bloodstock for Al Rabban Racing at Tattersalls Ascot Yearling sales. We look forward to the future with her...

The yearling circus started again in August with everybody stating how quickly the year had gone and how they couldn't believe they were already back in Arqana. However there aren't many nicer places to end up back at so quickly. Having attended Arqana for the first time in 2018 I had a better idea of what to expect this year and left with 1 purchase, a beautiful filly by Lope De Vega who'll head to George Scott. Bred on the same cross as Breeders cup heroine Newspaperofrecord, this filly was a stand out for myself and George who'll she go into training with. From the stunning beaches of Normandy it was a sharp contrast to be heading to Doncaster for the next sale. The Goffs UK sale is consistent source of precocity and speed, we were unlucky not to have walked away last year with Daahyeh who...
