British-based agent Billy Jackson Stops of JS Bloodstock paired up with Sydney trainer John O’Shea to purchase a colt by Newsells Park-based sire Nathaniel (Galileo) for 55,000gns at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale on Wednesday. Historically the bulk of European-bred horses raced in Australia are typically sourced from northern hemisphere horses in training sales, but Jackson-Stops explained that, due to the market for those sorts of horses now being so competitive, he and O’Shea’s assistant Tom Charlton - who is also the son of successful British trainer Roger - decided to target the European breeze-up sales, something they hope to continue through to the yearling sales series. “Tom and myself sort of came up with the idea and John, who has had a huge amount of success with European horses, with the likes of Group 1 winners Contributer and Hartnell,” said Jackson-Stops. “However, those types of horses now are...

The Ralph Beckett trained SHRARA became the 201st winner of a £25,000 October Book 1 Bonus when scoring in the EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes at Chepstow for Al Rabban Racing. Filly cost £42,000 at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale last autumn Amethyst has produced a few winners but Shadn looks set to become her best to date with her game three-quarter length defeat of Misty Grey setting her up for a likely tilt at the Group 3 Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury. "Super sweet filly, she won nicely at Kempton first-time-out and then she ran in the Queen Mary at Ascot - I didn’t ride her but she was probably still a little bit green," Murphy told Racing TV. "Billy Jackson-Stops [agent] did very well to source a filly like this, I think she cost 40-something thousand pounds [£42,000], you won’t see many No Nay Nevers at that price again. Andrew Balding enjoyed a timely boost following a testing few days as Shadn got her head back in front in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury. What a week it has been for bloodstock consultant Billy Jackson-Stops and his Qatari client Abdulaziz Al Rabban. Kuroshio, one of the surprise packages among the current crop of freshman sires, is to resume shuttling from his native Australia to Europe. The Darley-owned son of Exceed And Excel is to stand the coming breeding season at Clongiffen Stud in County Meath under the Compas Stallions banner. The deal for the horse's northern hemisphere rights was brokered by Billy Jackson-Stops on behalf of client Abdulaziz Al Rabban. "Kuroshio has had some outstanding results this year, all off the back of a very small number of average mares," said Jackson-Stops. "His stats in the UK are what attracted us most, having produced five winners from 14 runners, all from a particularly small crop." TDN: What was your path into the industry? BJS: My brother and I were big jumps racing fans, having been brought up opposite Towcester Racecourse, so we started out by riding point-to-pointers. Then when I left school I got some work experience with James Delahooke at Tattersalls and my interests soon changed from jumps to flat racing, and from there I got a job prepping yearlings at Hascombe and Valiant.
