JS Bloodstock has hit the ground running in 2020 with an inaugural trip to the Magic Millions yearling sales on the Gold Coast. Billy came away with two purchases, one for South Australian trainer Will Clarken and a second for good friend and leading Victorian training partnership David Eustace and Ciaron Maher. Dave and Ciaron have had an impressive run of success - currently sitting second in the Victorian premiership and training at an unprecedented strike rate of 19.4%. They scooped two races on the big Magic Millions race day including the feature 2 year old event with one of their 2019 Magic Millions graduates Away Game. The yearling circus started again in August with everybody stating how quickly the year had gone and how they couldn't believe they were already back in Arqana. However there aren't many nicer places to end up back at so quickly. Having attended Arqana for the first time in 2018 I had a better idea of what to expect this year and left with 1 purchase, a beautiful filly by Lope De Vega who'll head to George Scott. Bred on the same cross as Breeders cup heroine Newspaperofrecord, this filly was a stand out for myself and George who'll she go into training with. JS Bloodstock in partnership with George Scott Racing secured Lot 85 on the first day of a strong session at Arqana. The filly cost 160,000 euros from leading consignors Ballylinch Stud who stand her sire Lope De Vega in Ireland. She is out of the Listed placed mare Fifth Commandment who is dam of 2 winners to date, most recently the 2-year-old Love Vega who is 1 win for 1 run in France in 2019....

20 Jul Racing Post: Shadn looks a smart purchase after claiming Listed honours at Newbury

Filly cost £42,000 at the Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale last autumn Amethyst has produced a few winners but Shadn looks set to become her best to date with her game three-quarter length defeat of Misty Grey setting her up for a likely tilt at the Group 3 Dick Poole Stakes at Salisbury. "Super sweet filly, she won nicely at Kempton first-time-out and then she ran in the Queen Mary at Ascot - I didn’t ride her but she was probably still a little bit green," Murphy told Racing TV. "Billy Jackson-Stops [agent] did very well to source a filly like this, I think she cost 40-something thousand pounds [£42,000], you won’t see many No Nay Nevers at that price again. That’s a huge result, a Listed win, and I’d be hopeful she’d progress."
