Today’s opening session of Goffs February Sale was headed by six figure sales in the weanling and horses in training categories. Baroda Stud topped the Day 1 weanling trade with their son of Sottsass (Lot 126 - pictured), the first foal out of a Camelot sister to several Group performers, selling for €115,000 to Tally Ho. Ringfort Stud offered another of the day's standouts with their Night Of Thunder colt (Lot 109) out of a winning Street Cry mare that has already produced three winners from three runners and is a sister to a host of black type horses including Group 1 winner Bandini.  He sold to JS Bloodstock and Rogues Gallery for €110,000. The sales circuit for 2022 culminated with foals and breeding stock sales at Goffs, Tattersalls and Arqana. The market was unusually strong as evidenced by Arqana's total aggregate for their sale going from €42 million in 2021 to €59 million in 2022. Despite the strength of the market JS Bloodstock Consultancy still managed to buy a various number of foals, fillies and mares highlighted by a Kodiac colt foal for 145,000 GNS who will be re-offered as a yearling next year, a well bred filly by Golden Horn for 82,000 GNS who will race on in France in 2022 and a mare in foal to No Nay Never for 330,000 GNS. ...

At the end of the yearling sale circus JS Bloodstock Consultancy picked up just over 40 yearlings for a variety of different trainer including George Scott, Andrew Balding, Tom Clover, George Boughey, Alice Haynes and Roger Varian. There were 4 bought from Tattersalls Book 1 which included an Inns Of Court half-sister to juvenile Group 1 winner Ebro River who will go into training with Andrew Balding. Following on from Book 1 there were 6 bought from Book 2, which included 3 exciting colts by Make Believe, Time Test and Blue Point. Tattersalls was rounded off with 3 purchases from Book 3 which included a colt by Night Of Thunder and a good looking colt by Cracksman who went into training with Tom Clover and George Scott respectively. ...

JS Bloodstock consultancy was a leading sponsor of the Retraining Of Racehorses Polo Pony competition at Beenham's Farm in Berkshire, sponsoring the 4-year-olds class. Organised by leading England player Jack Richardson, the event drew a total of 45 retrained racehorses spread out amongst classes for 3, 4, 5 and 6-year-olds. The winner of the JS Bloodstock 4-year-old class was River, owned by Ireland's captain Richard Le Poer, River is a daughter of Epaulette. The 5-year-old class was won by Chiarodiluna, a 13 race maiden, she was bought by JS Bloodstock for Jack Richardson at the Tattersalls February Sale 2021 for 3,000GNS and she looks to have a bright future ahead of her on the polo field. ...

So far JS Bloodstock has been active at sales across Europe, starting at Deauville in France where they bought a Cracksman colt for €185,000 who has gone into training with George Boughey in Newmarket. Following on from Arqana was Goffs UK in Doncaster where there were 8 purchases made in total which included progeny by leading sires such as Dark Angel, Kodiac and Profitable. These purchases have gone to a selection of different trainers such as George Scott, Tom Clover, George Boughey  and Alice Haynes. The first yearling sale of the year in Newmarket took place at the beginning of September which resulted in 9 purchases in total which included progeny by sires such as Time Test, Dark Angel, Dandy Man and Gleneagles. 4-year-old Aldeenaary is on the next plane to Australia having won on debut at Nottingham. He was sold for 12,000GNS to Roger Teal in February this year as a cast off from Shadwell having previously cost 400,000GNS as a yearling. A half-brother to multiple stakes performers, he's also a half-brother to non other than Irish 2000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain. Aldeenaary beat the once raced Nigwa by a head at Nottingham over 10 furlongs with a very taking display, coming from off of a slow pace and getting his head in front where it mattered. Nigwa has since franked the form by winning on her next start. Aldeenaary will now head to the stable of John O'Shea at Randwick in Sydney. ...

2-year-olds of 2022 bought as yearlings or breeze-ups by JS Bloodstock have been winning on the track for a variety of  different trainers. Tom Clover has enjoyed success with the 91 rated Rogue Spirit, who has won twice this year and was 3rd in The Super Sprint, he was a relatively in-expensive purchase at 12,000GNS. The same owners of Rogue Spirit have also enjoyed some big days out with Rogue Lightning, a 44,000GNS breeze-up purchase, who won on debut at Newmarket by 4 lengths and followed that up with a 2nd in the Listed Rosebowl Stakes at Newbury. George Scott has had various cheaply bought yearlings win this year as 2-year-olds that were selected by JS Bloodstock such as Yahtzee, a 16,000GNS purchase, Gumais, a 15,000GNS  purchase and Coco Jack, who didn't sell at the sales but a deal was struck afterwards for the horse to...

Tally-Ho Stud has regularly topped the list of vendors at this year's European breeze-up sales and the O'Callaghan family sold an Exceed And Excel colt who interrupted the procession of fillies selling for in excess of €200,000. Billy Jackson-Stops, acting on behalf of owner Michael Blencowe, who has Imperial Fighter in Saturday's Irish 2,000 Guineas, went to €260,000 to secure the half-brother to Group 3 winner Dibajj and Listed winner Black Sea. It was a plan that was a long time coming to a successful conclusion. Sound Of Cannons, a private purchase from Brian Meehan, eventually got of the mark in Australia. He's showed a lot of potential when running in Sydney but the left handed tracks of Melbourne have bought out the best in him and he'll look to back up into the 'win and you're in' Andrew Ramsden Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. ...
